    History

    Criminal Justice was administered by the District & Sessions Judge, The District Magistrate and various deputy and sub Deputy Magistrates at the head quarters and Sub Divisional Towns of Siwan and Gopalganj.

    With the passage of time the Judgeship of Siwan was carved out from the Judgeship in or about in the year 1975-76 along with Sub-Division of Gopalganj. Mr.R.H. Anderson was the Ist District & Sessions Judge of the Judgeship. His tenure was from 07-11-1899 to 05-03-1902 and Sri Mangal Pandey was the Ist District Magistrate Cum Collector of District Saran.

    CREATION:-

    According to the available information and figure the Judgeship of Saran at Chapra came into existence in or around 1899. Before that it was part of Muzaffarpur Judgeship. Mr.R.H. Anderson was the Ist District & Sessions Judge of the Judgeship. His tenure was from 1-1-1899 to 05-03-1902 and Sri Mangal Pandey was the 1st District Magistrate Cum Collector of District Saran.

    The Court Building of Saran Judgeship are in four blocks Known as Old Building, New Building (Main Building) , Fast Track Building and Ten Court (Magesterial Building).

    The Family Court is functioning with effect from 2.7.2005 on first floor of the main building.

    Residential Accommodation for Judicial Officers and for Class-III and Class-IV

    1. There are only 21 residential quarters for judicial officers including the residence of the District & Sessions Judge.
    2. There are four quarters for class-III staff at Gandhi Chowk of this town. Further there are seven quarters for class-IV staff in the premises of Civil Court.

    • SONEPUR:- It is situated at the on the confluence of rivers Ganges.Its visiting season is November-December i.e in Kartik. From Patna its distance is about 35 K.M byroad.It is known for having one of the bggest railway platform in thecountry. At this place there is temple of Harihar Nath. During Kartik Purnima pilgrims in large numbers used to come to pay their oblation to Harihar Nath. On this occasion Mela is organized which is one of the biggest cattle fair in Asia
    • CHIRAND:- It is situated 11 K.m south-east of the district headquarter near Doriganj Bazar. The result of Excavation there reveals about 4,000 years old developed culture of Pashan Dynesty
    • DADHICHI ASHRAM DAHIYAWAN, CHAPRA:- This Ashram of Maharshi Dadhichi now known as Mandir of Umanath is situated inChapra town. There are statues of Maharshi Dadhichi and other deities there
